Vote for Nature

With a federal election called for September 20, 2021, it’s time to make the interconnected crises of biodiversity loss and climate change a top issue for voters and political candidates. Whom we vote for matters more than ever. We need leaders who are prepared to take bold, rapid action to chart a greener, safer, and more equitable future for us all.

By signing this Action Alert, you will be sending a clear message to the major political parties and their candidates: we want biodiversity and climate justice champions on Parliament Hill. Those seeking office must prove to us that ...

Those seeking office must prove to us that they have plans and determination to address the emergency.

If you have an opportunity to speak with a political candidate, make sure they get the message. Consider asking one of the following questions:

  1. This summer the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released an alarming report described as a “code red for humanity” What actions will your party take to achieve climate justice and reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, and when?

  2. Protected places are an essential, nature-based solution to biodiversity loss and climate change. Will your party honour Canada’s commitment to protect at least 25 percent of our lands and waters by 2025, and 30 percent by 2030?

  3. A green and just future requires respecting and upholding the rights and conservation priorities of Indigenous Peoples. What steps will your party take to implement Canada’s new United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act and the “calls to action” of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission?

Solutions exist. But they need to be implemented without delay. Together we can make a difference – beginning with your vote.
